Walter Benetiz, Omni San Francisco
Since 2002, when the Omni opened in San Francisco, In Room Dining Server, Walter Benetiz, has put his quality stamp on customer service and made his mark as a team player in his typical quiet and unassuming manner. It did come as a surprise to his colleagues, however, that Extreme Home Makeover has nothing on Walter. On his own initiative, Walter single-handedly designed and fabricated storage racks for varying sizes of room service trays at home, at his own expense….twice!!!! His colleagues, not aware of what Walter was quietly building at home, learned of this when he came to the hotel – on his day off, of course – to install the shelving, thus creating an efficient and safe storage area in the small space. His handy work did not end there. When new room service trays showed considerable wear and tear after only a short time, Walter took the trays home, in batches, stripped and varnished them and returned them, like new. Walter’s “beyond the call of duty” initiative, talent and hard work are a tribute to his loyalty to his department and his hotel…also to the Home Decorating Channel.
