In an effort to meet anticipated workforce demands as Kimpton continues to grow, the Company launched an interactive Web site titled "KIMPTON!" (I Am Kimpton) at www.imkimpton.com in May 2008 that provides potential job candidates with an authentic perspective on Kimpton as an employer and connects Kimpton employees with one another. The site features employee-generated video stories, employee profiles, job openings, virtual interview tips, frequently asked questions and more.
Anticipating a need for dynamic new employees to join Kimpton as it grows, the company sought out a new way to engage with the workforce. Understanding that millennials (Gen Y) will be a large part of the workforce, and often interact and communicate online, Kimpton developed an online tool where interested job candidates could learn more about the Company and why it is an exceptional place to build a career.
The video stories "Why I Love Working for Kimpton" and "A Day in My Kimpton Life" reaffirm the strong culture exhibited at the Company and capture employees candidly talking about their personal experiences at Kimpton. We see this as an opportunity for employees to share their stories with each other and anticipate that it will also help job-seekers determine if Kimpton is a company they'd like to pursue. Additionally, visitors will learn more about what makes Kimpton unique such as its environmental EarthCare program and Kimpton Cares program which includes national sponsorships of such charities like Dress for Success, Trust for Public Land, the Red Ribbon Campaign and much more.
More and more candidates are coming to Kimpton, because they've either enjoyed their experience as a guest or they've heard about Kimpton’s track record as a socially responsible organization. They are attracted to Kimpton’s environmental practices, commitment to inclusion and work environment, especially with an emphasis on caring and fun.
Kimpton is committed to seeking and retaining diverse and inclusive employees who can connect with others. It is vital to Kimpton’s day-to-day business, growth plans and culture that its employees look, sound and act like its guests, who are becoming more and more diverse all the time. Kimpton does not stop there though - They search for employees who can authentically connect to each other and the guests.
As Kimpton hires new employees, they are more interested in whether they share our values and have a genuine heartfelt sense of care. Kimpton believes it is easier to teach skills, especially for line level employees, rather than try to instill in them a commitment to service and care. When job candidates visit the "KIMPTON!" site, they can watch the "Virtual Interview Tips," video where Kimpton's Chief Operating Officer, Niki Leondakis, and Senior Director, People and Culture, Leslie Lerude, speak candidly about the interview process at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. Leondakis reinforces that technical skills can be taught and what Kimpton looks for is personality. "We look for people who genuinely care about others. We look for people who have warmth in their personality; who connect easily with others. We look for people who are passionate about what they do."
