InterContinental San Francisco
As the impact of global warming spreads, the InterContinental has initiated programs to reduce the carbon footprint of their building. They have submitted their proposal to become one of the largest existing hotels to achieve Gold LEED certification. The InterCon’s Director of Engineering, who heads their Green Team has implemented a vast array of innovative solutions to ensure the hotel is energy efficient. He has worked with the City, PG&E, The U.S. Green Building Council and San Francisco State students to develop, implement and roll-out energy savings across the board. In 2009 alone, they were able to reduce energy costs at the hotel by over 20%. Their Green Team has also initiated waste diversion and recycling for re-use programs, and insure that all vendors are also eco friendly.
